Method
Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients
- Start by gathering your ingredients. Lay them out on your countertop. Having everything ready to go makes the cooking process smoother. I suggest slicing the brie thinly while spreading the red pepper jelly on one side of each slice of sourdough. This way, everything is prepped and ready for the next steps.
Step 2: Heat the Pan
- Grab a non-stick skillet. Place it over medium heat and add a chunk of butter. Allow it to melt and coat the pan evenly. The smell of butter sizzling is like music to my ears.
Step 3: Assemble the Sandwich
- Now it’s the fun part. Take one slice of bread and spread the jelly side up. Layer the sliced brie generously on top. Follow this with the grated cheddar. Sprinkle those finely chopped basil leaves and drizzle honey on top. Finally, place the second slice of sourdough, jelly side down, atop your masterpiece.
Step 4: Grill to Perfection
- Carefully place the assembled sandwich in the pan. Let it sit for a couple of minutes until golden brown. You may also want to lower the heat to ensure the cheese melts gloriously without burning the bread. After about three minutes, flip the sandwich. Add the second chunk of butter around the edges for that extra crispy finish.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
- Once both sides are perfectly browned and the cheese has melted beautifully, transfer the sandwich to a cutting board. Let it rest for a minute. This allows the cheese to set slightly, making your first bite even more enjoyable. Cut in half and serve immediately.
Notes
- Sourdough Bread: I love this bread for its texture and flavor. It holds up well against the creamy ingredients.
- Brie Cheese: Known for its mild, buttery taste, brie adds richness and a creamy texture that makes this grilled cheese unforgettable.
- Red Pepper Jelly: This ingredient surprised me. It adds an unexpected twist that balances all the savory and rich components.
- Cheddar: The sharpness cuts through the creaminess while enhancing the overall flavor.
- Basil: It’s refreshing and brings a garden-fresh aroma to the sandwich.
- Honey: This element adds a touch of sweetness, unifying all the flavors.
