Flaming Dragon Cheesesteak Recipe - Delicious Meal Ideas

When enjoying the Flaming Dragon Cheesesteak, it's important to pair it with sides and beverages that enhance the bold flavors of the sandwich. Start with crispy French fries, golden and crunchy on the outside with a soft interior, making them the perfect classic companion.
For a fresh contrast, serve with coleslaw; its tangy crunch, especially when made with a vinegar-based dressing, balances the cheesesteak’s richness. Pickles offer a burst of tangy, crunchy flavor that cuts through the savory sandwich, making them a simple yet effective side.
To wash it down, a cold beer, particularly an IPA, complements the bold flavors beautifully. For those opting for a non-alcoholic beverage, soda or iced tea provides a refreshing match that balances the richness of the meal. With these perfect pairings, your Flaming Dragon Cheesesteak experience will be elevated to new heights!

Ingredients

  • 4 soft hoagie buns
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 lb ribeye steak, cut into thin strips
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, julienned
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Vegetables
  1. Start by slicing your onion and cutting the bell pepper into thin strips. The thinner they are, the quicker they will cook. Set them aside.
Step 2: Sear the Steak
  1. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the ribeye strips. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until browned. This ensures you keep that glorious meat flavor intact.
Step 3: Sauté the Onions and Peppers
  1. To the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and butter. Toss in the sliced onion and bell pepper. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until they soften and caramelize. The sweetness from the onions will infuse the dish nicely.
Step 4: Combine Everything
  1. Add the cooked steak back to the skillet with the sautéed veggies. Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar, tossing everything together. The vinegar will balance the richness of the steak and cheese perfectly.
Step 5: Assemble Your Cheesesteaks
  1. Turn the stove to low. Place slices of provolone cheese over the steak and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Cover to melt the cheese, about 2 minutes.
Step 6: Toast the Hoagie Buns
  1. While the cheese melts, you can toast your hoagie buns. Lightly spread some butter on the insides of the buns and place them face down on a griddle until golden brown.
Step 7: Serve
  1. Once the cheese is melted, scoop the filling into the toasted buns. Add a sprinkle of extra black pepper if you like. And voilà! Your Flaming Dragon Cheesesteak is ready to devour.

Notes

  • Use Quality Meat: Always opt for high-grade ribeye. It ensures flavor and tenderness.
  • Thin Slices: Slice your steak as thinly as possible. It cooks faster and integrates better with the fillings.
  • Don’t Rush the Vegetables: Caramelizing takes time but is worth it for the added sweetness and flavor.
  • Experiment with Cheeses: If provolone isn’t your style, try mozzarella, gouda, or even cheddar!
  • Prep Ahead of Time: Slice vegetables and meat beforehand, making cooking a breeze.
