Philly Cheesesteak Garlic Bread Recipe - Delicious Meal Ideas

Let's be honest—when you hear the word “cheesesteak,” your mouth probably waters just a bit. Now, pair that with garlic bread, and you’ve got an absolute flavor fiesta waiting to happen. Before we dive into the delicious recipe, let’s talk about what pairs well with this dish.
For an enticing pairing with your cheesesteak garlic bread, consider serving marinated veggies. A bright and tangy side of marinated vegetables can cut through the richness of the bread, offering a refreshing crunch. Simply combine cherry tomatoes, red onion, and cucumber in a vinegar-based dressing for a delightful contrast.
Another great option is a classic Caesar salad. With its crisp romaine, crunchy croutons, and creamy dressing, this salad provides a tasty way to incorporate some greens while tantalizing your taste buds.
If you’re looking for something with a satisfying crunch, homemade potato chips are the perfect accompaniment. Their crispy texture creates an exciting contrast to the soft garlic bread, adding another layer of enjoyment to your meal.

Ingredients

For the Cheesesteak
  • 16 oz thinly shaved steak or ribeye steak, sliced very thin
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely sliced
  • 2 tsp freshly minced garlic
  • 1 tsp coarse kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried Italian oregano
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Garlic Bread
  • 1 loaf of crusty French bread, halved lengthwise
  • 3 Tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Italian herb blend
  • 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 8 slices of creamy provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

Method

Step 1: Sauté the Vegetables
  1. Start by heating 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook until they become soft and translucent, around 4-5 minutes. Toss in the sliced red and green bell peppers and 2 teaspoons of minced garlic.
Season this mix with salt, black pepper, Italian oregano, smoked paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook everything together for another 5-6 minutes until the peppers are tender.
Step 2: Cook the Steak
  1. Push the veggies to the side of the skillet and add the remaining olive oil. Place the sliced steak in the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes, stirring everything together until the meat is browned and cooked through. You want to achieve that perfect sear without overcooking it.
Step 3: Prepare the Garlic Butter
  1. While the steak is cooking, mix 3 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon of Italian herb blend in a small bowl. This garlic butter is going to elevate the bread.
Step 4: Assemble the Bread
  1. Slice your French bread in half, lengthwise. Spread that amazing garlic butter generously on the cut sides of the bread. Ensure every nook and cranny is covered!
Step 5: Add the Cheesesteak Mixture
  1. Layer the steak and vegetable mixture evenly on top of the garlic butter. Don’t be shy—load it on!
Step 6: Cheese It Up
  1. Sprinkle ¼ cup of finely grated Parmesan cheese over the steak, then place 8 slices of provolone on top. Finally, add 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. Go wild; cheese makes everything better.
Step 7: Bake
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the loaded bread on a baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Step 8: Serve
  1. Once it’s ready, remove it from the oven, sprinkle with ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley and a dash of crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Slice and serve warm!

Notes

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh herbs and quality meats make a big difference in taste.
  • Preheat the Oven: A hot oven ensures that the bread stays crisp and that the cheese melts perfectly.
  • Experiment with Cheeses: Try mixing different cheeses like cheddar or gouda for varied flavor profiles.
  • Chill and Serve Later: You can assemble the bread ahead of time and bake it just before serving.
  • Watch the Cheese: If your cheese starts browning too quickly, cover it with foil until it melts to your liking.
