Method
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
- Start by gathering all your ingredients. This way, you’ll avoid any last-minute scrambles. Thinly slice the onion and green bell pepper. This makes for quick sautéing and ensures everything cooks evenly.
Step 2: Sauté the Vegetables
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the sliced onions and peppers. Sauté these until they become soft and slightly caramelized, usually around 5-7 minutes. This will enhance their natural sweetness and bring out more flavor.
Step 3: Cook the Beef
- Next, push the sautéed veggies to one side of the skillet. In the cleared space, add the shaved beef steak. Sprinkle in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through. Stir the meat and vegetables together to combine.
Step 4: Assemble the Sliders
- While the beef cooks, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half, keeping them attached. Place the bottom halves in a baking dish. Spoon the beef and veggie mixture generously over the rolls. Layer the provolone slices on top of the beef, allowing the cheese to cover as much surface area as possible.
Step 5: Finish with the Top Rolls
- Place the top halves of the Hawaiian rolls on the assembled sliders. Melt the butter and mix in the dried thyme and Dijon mustard (if using). Brush this mixture over the top of the rolls, giving them an extra touch of flavor.
Step 6: Bake the Sliders
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 15 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden, and the tops are slightly crispy.
Notes
- Use Fresh Shaved Beef: Freshly sliced beef will yield a more tender and flavorful slider compared to pre-packaged options.
- Customize Your Cheese: While provolone is traditional, mixing in mozzarella or cheddar can bring unique flavors to the dish.
- Add Heat: If you like some spice, consider adding sliced jalapeños or a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes for a kick.
- Go Bold on Seasoning: Don’t shy away from adding herbs like oregano or parsley for additional flavor depth.
- Make-Ahead Option: Prepare the beef and veggie filling in advance. Store it in the fridge and assemble the sliders when you’re ready to bake.
